DEFINITION: Reputation
The beliefs or opinions that are generally held about someone or something. A widespread belief that someone or something has a particular habit or characteristic.
Reputation by default or on purpose: “Your reputation should be created BY you not FOR you!”
- 3 Types of Verbal Communication styles
- Passive (Level 2 Thinking) – submissive, pushover, allows others to talk over them, interrupt their conversation and/or walk all over them. Very non-confrontational. May not have a voice of their own to express their opinion, thoughts, ideas, etc. Mainly concerned about what others want or think.
Ex. “It doesn’t matter…”, “Whatever you want / decide…”, “I don’t know…”, “Whatever you think is best…”
- Assertive (All 5 Level Thinkers) – professionally assertive when dealing with others, cares about what others think and feel regarding the subject matter. Open to converse in a balanced conversation even if others disagree with their position / point of view. They have a viewpoint and takes other viewpoints into consideration as well. About 30% of the population.
Ex. Empathy sentences: “So what you’re saying is…”, “I can see why this is important to you…”, “I think…, I feel…, I believe that…”, I’d appreciate it if you…”, “Let me understand your thoughts on this…”
- Aggressive (Level 1 Thinking) – these people tend to be very emotional and combative in their conversation. Uses strong language with aggressive vocal tones. Not emotionally intelligent in regard to others. Feels their viewpoints are right and not concerned with what others think. Most people will avoid dealing with them unless they HAVE to.
Ex. “Not sure why you can’t see that this is the right way to do this…”, “My way or the highway…”, “I don’t care what you feel…”
